... Corey Perry is a rising star. He deserves the honor of being named a Canadian Olympian. Team USA lacks grit. Guerin and Byfuglien would have helped. |

... You were so right to call-out Datsyuk! He is kill my fantasy team (and so are Turco and Ward but then I picked up Howard last month thank god!) and he is looking unlike himself. I am very disappointed in him, Datsyuk's my idol so I have big expectations and I expect flashy moves as well as points. He hasn't been flashy in probably 75% of the games this season and his moves come back every handful of games, it drives me crazy. Oh well at least he is putting some points. Tomas Holmstrom is playing the best hockey I have ever seen out of him (I am too young to remember anything before the lockout though). He is actually holding onto the puck and he is doing it exceptionally well. I was just so used to having D and Z doing all the stick-handling with Holmer in front of the net, but that is no longer the case. He has been amazing! A legit top 6 forward, something I couldn't have imagined saying a few years ago. And their is no drop off in his dirty goal production either. Bertuzzi has been huge for the Red Wings, we are going to be stacked come playoffs. Ritola looked fantasic, I watch him all the time in Grand Rapids and he is often invisible. It makes me wonder how the Wings would have been last season with Ritola/Leino/Kopecky on the 4th line last year. I truely believe Kope can turn into a PF given the right situation and I felt this year he would've had a Franzen like breakout. Playing on the 4th line with Drapes and Malts is nearly impossible for anyone to produce. When Leino came to town I think Kope put up most of his points. Also Meech has really improved, and even though he is constantly making mistakes, he is on the teams 2nd pair after 1st/2nd line NHLers after rarely playing any NHL games for 2 years. He can get physical and has a rocket of a shot. He is brutal on the PP though, he needs to work on keeping the puck in the zone. Stuart is transforming himself into our short term Lidstrom replacement. And I want to talk about Howard. I honestly did not realize he was doing so well despite checking my fantasy team everyday. I am a huge fan no doubt, but the way he is playing, I am not really sure he can keep this up for very long, he isn't this good. I am afraid of him starting the playoffs, putting all the pressure on him from the start. Put him in an Osgood like situation from 07/08. My biggest fear is having him become Legace, who was (again I was too young to really remember accurately) really good with the Wings until playoffs along with the fact the Wings couldn't score in the playoffs and Legace was a scapegoat and driven out of town. We must be very slow with Howie, learn from our past. Also Griffins goaltending has been brutal as of late. Mursak and Pare have been red hot and Emmerton is putting up points. Mursak/Tatar are going to be stars. Also our PK has been phenomenal, we must keep Drew Miller just for that reason. |

... walt - Mebdeech is a shape-shifter. It all makes sense, I never thought about that. Hilarious. Coffey - Callahan, Kesler, Langenbrunner, Brown, Malone, Backes ... Orpik, JMFJ, E. Johnson, Suter, Komisarek. What a bunch of softies. robert - Great post. I agree on almost everything except Kopecky. Forget that guy.. he's the ultimate tease. I picked him to score 15 last year and he didn't do a thing. Can't see him doing much in Chicago, think he's KHL bound whenever best friend Marian sets him free. |

... While Stuart has not lived up to being the 3rd overall pick he is certainly not a bust. I don't think you meant to call him that but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. He has been the best Wings D this year by far and should make it to the All-Star game. He and Howard have to be our team MVPs so far. |

... True, bust is too harsh of a word for what I was trying to say there. Basically, most defensemen picked in the top five are supposed to excel. Usually the hype gets ridiculous, but they're always supposed to be top pairing guys, with expectations of Norris trophies, maybe even Olympians. It's usually way unfair to put that on an 18-year-old, but that seems to be the trend since I've followed. Stuart was really thrown into the fire in his early 20s as a top pairing guy on San Jose. He was less than spectacular for them, but he was still young -- defensemen peak later than forwards, generally. So he bounced around as more of a second pairing guy, which is good, but disappointing, for a guy picked 3rd overall. But I've felt this season he's really attained that "elite" status. He's certainly a defense first guy, but if I were starting a team from scratch I'd be perfectly fine with him on the top pairing. He's not going to put up 50+ points, but he's good enough on offense that he wouldn't drag everyone else down. |
