Interview with Landon Ferraro

Just passing on the quick note today that I was fortunate enough to interview Landon Ferraro last week, the 32nd overall pick (close enough to the first round, right?). The article is up over at Winging it in Motown, and I wanted to plug it over here while today is still a little slow.

Thanks in large part to Casey over at WIM, we're really just rolling along here and knocking off basically one interview a week. The current count is three, with Ferraro, his linemate (and obviously, a Detroit-contracted player) Willie Coetzee, and another 2009 pick, Nick Jensen. There are definitely more in the works, and without giving anything away since it's not officially official, it looks like we may have landed a big fish for this week.

My question to you all, is what sort of things do you want to know about prospects? Obviously with the way I follow them, I know their backgrounds pretty well and feel like I have unique questions for just about all of them. But I'm always looking for fresh ideas and different areas to focus on. Would more on-ice questions be interesting? Maybe more about what the player does off the ice, how they train? More on their developmental path, how they work with the Wings? Anything. Feedback either in here or over at WIM would be nice, I do intend to use it... I really find this to be an awesome opportunity for me, and the last thing I want is for my questions to get stale, I'm hoping to give everyone a reason to read these interviews every week. Let me know.

I think you've got an awesome opportunity with this and so far you're using it very well. I've enjoyed the interviews. I'd like to hear a bit more of what they do off the ice, and also what kinda time table they see for themselves.

Would also be cool to hear what your opinion is of their future and timetable.

Cheers, keep up the good work!

Kyle, I love reading just about anything about our prospects. The one thing I wish I could find more of is some actual video. There's nothing like actually being able to see the person play for yourself.

Great job with the interviews.

Off topic:

What do you think about these lines:

Bertuzzi -Datsyuk - Holmstrom
Franzen - Zetterberg - Cleary
Miller - Filppula - Williams
Draper - Helm - Eaves

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I like those lines, loojay. I'm a big fan of keeping that Helm line together. I would be concerned about that 3rd line. Filppula has some speed but I worry about keeping Miller and Williams on the same line. If Williams can start shooting more, it'll work out, with Miller crashing the net and all that. I like it.

Hey Kyle, definitely great work on the interviews. I would agree with Andy that the one thing that would be nice, and would conveniently give you a bit more chance to shine, would be some of your own analysis afterwards. What is your projected timetable for potentially seeing them in a Red Wing uniform, or at least an NHL uniform? What are maybe 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses that you think they need to keep up or work on? What role could you see them potentially playing on the Wings? Finally, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't, but maybe a "This Player Reminds Me Of Player X" kind of thing.

Great work, keep it up. Prediction for tonight's game, now that the Big Rig is scratched?

loojay: my 2 cents

Having both Bert & Homer on the top line makes it a bit slow.

Cleary is great on any line but he scored the most on the 3rd except last years playoffs.

I can't wait until the mule gets back. I hope he gets some reparte (sic?) with one of the younger speedy wingers.
